Bulldogs Defense of Championship at Verdero National Wood Bat Tournament ends in Semi-Finals with 6-5 loss

The 2009 Verdero Champions MYB Bulldogs opened the 2010 tournament with wins against Riverbank 12-2 and Castle Hill 2-0 yesterday Monday August 9. Last night Tuesday August 10 the Bulldogs fought back hard but lost 8-5 to the Tiger Sports Club of Mt. Vernon.  Today at 2:30 in CastleHill, Bronx starts the road to the Championship each game now is single elimination.

Verdero is the only minority owned supplier to Major League Baseball for bats, cleats and gloves. Jorge Medina puts this tournament on every year for the kids.

Manager Andy Perel has the team focused and trained for the rigorous 5 day tournament and is very proud of the players performance thus far. Joseph Reyes and Chris Pichardo pitch well in the first game, while Jose Del La Cruz and Gregory Dominguez pitch a combined no hitter in game 2. The defensive play was the strong point of the first two games but the critical play of game 2 was by J.C. Ramos robbing the Castle Hill team of a home run making the catch over the wall.

Game three was not our best defensive along with a few base running errors put us behind and our bats could not recover.  We received strong pitching efforts from Chris Pichardo and Willie Morales to keep the game close.

The Quarter final match up with the Phenoms started off with a blast as the Bulldogs went up 4-0 in the first and never looked back.  Cesar Alverez pitch 6 strong inning and held the Bronx team to 1 run.  A strong middle defense by Andy Lopez and Alex Perel backed by /center Fielder J.C. Ramos cut everything down while smooth glove work by the the corners Chris Pichardo and Jose Del la Cruz kept the game out of reach for any comebacks.

The team continues with a team first attitude and a commitment of purpose.  Manager Andy Perel is keeping them centered and focused.

A Hard fought semi final rematch against the Tigers Sports Club from New Rochelle whom we played in 2009 semi-finals ended with a walk of single scoring a runner from second.  All the Bulldog players left all they had on the field and show tremendous character.  We are all very proud of their run this year.
